USR Cares is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to expanding the safety net for residents of Upper Saddle River when faced with a catastrophic event or illness. USR Cares will also be a resource for residents to help find assistance and solutions for specific needs such as transportation or grocery shopping or providing meals. USR Cares has a network of volunteers comprised of Upper Saddle River residents, medical professionals, community organizations, and local businesses.

In 2015, a tragedy occurred in our town. Two children, already faced with a terminal diagnosis of their mother, suddenly lost their father. It was clear the community needed to step in and support this family. Residents of USR readily volunteered to provide daily home-cooked meals, tutoring, school lunches, plowing & shoveling, pool care, and much-needed rides into the city for treatment each week. This all needed to be quickly organized and done without chaos. With the help and support of the USR community, this family was able to experience a better quality of life during a tragic time. For this reason, USR Cares was created in memory of this loving mother, daughter, friend, and neighbor.

We provide support to neighbors and families in our community that are facing a temporary crisis, whether it is a health or financial emergency. Our recent initiatives have included a Senior Outreach program to support our seniors throughout the challenging pandemic lockdown in 2020-2021. Through our USR Cares Project Sunshine and Cheer Visits program, we have developed relationships with approximately 100 senior households in our community with regular visits and phone calls.

Our primary fundraising event is Oktoberfest which is held in our local Lions Park Saturday of Columbus Day Weekend. We accept donations throughout the year. Click the donate button in our navigation menu at the top.

Oktoberfest is held every year in October at Lions Park in Upper Saddle River. Live music, amusement rides for the children, games, crafts, vendors, a silent auction, and a variety of delicious foods, and beer and wine. A senior tent for USR residents aged 70+ will feature activities and short seminars. Participating will be many of our community and service organizations and local cultural organizations. USR Cares is looking for vendors, sponsors, and raffle prizes. If you are willing to be a sponsor, or if you can donate a raffle prize, please visit our Oktoberfest page by clicking the link in the top menu. There are varying levels of sponsorship.

We strive to help our neighbors in need. Our volunteer Ambassadors include long-time USR residents who are neighbors, leaders of the community and charitable organizations, and legal and healthcare professionals. Their shared focus is to serve our community by helping neighbors through difficult times.

Yes. We are a 501(C)(3) New Jersey nonprofit corporation that complies with State law and is detailed in NJSA 15A:9-4 and is eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. We were established to raise charitable donations to support our community members in crisis.

There are currently more than 30 Ambassadors, including the nine board members listed above. Each Ambassador serves on one of our several standing committees.
